My response to criticism

A blog reader asked me to respond to a post on a newbie marketing forum called 'The Warriors'. The post can be found here: http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=195597

Allow me to respond.

First, 'blackhatcat' warns people that my Super Affiliate Training was a waste of time. I say to that… to each is their own. Those that 'get it' realized what they received was pure goal (market research, a plan, access to unreleased material, discounts on other peoples products, rebates, etc). Well worth the $197, but anyway, the membership was capped so you no longer have to worry about this one.

I respect his opinion, as we all have them.

Since we are talking about this publicly, some person decided to post my copywrited material to The Vault (if you know what that is, then you know its all pirated stuff) as well as other pirate sites. I decided to stop the training and provide it all on CD that will be shipped to everyone. Sorry if that bugs you but blame the person that forced me to change the format.

The thread then changed to how my newsletter sucked. Wow, to this I say that if you don't like it… cancel. Email woody@woodymaxim.com and my admin will ensure it's done quickly. I admit, there has been a dud, but the kick ass issues far outweight the bad ones.

As far as me being a 'total fraud' as the dipshit 'drunkonlife' claims, I say read this blog. I don't recall too many other blogs that have given so much QUALITY information for free.

Ok, that's off my chest… ROFL.

For those that are interested in making money, let's get back to work.

Chris B @ 9:40 am

People who post regularly at Warrior Forum are a bunch of douche bags anyhow. Don't sweat it (doesn't seem like you are).

The content on this blog is top notch. I just recently discovered it but I'm glad I have.

Jack @ 10:51 am

The warriorforum is full of scammers. Everyday you see people posting of how they were scammed on the WSO section. And the mods delete every thread that arises as a result of this. I think the FTC should look closely at whats going on there.

They can't seem to see the real scammers that are there right under their noses and not the so called scammers providing better content for free on a blog than the whole warriorforum.

Ryan @ 2:58 pm

HaHaHA!

Bloody warrior pussies!

THEY are the scammers!!!

Their WSO are utter shit so suck on that "warriors".

Woody man…I love you work man.
Seriously.

I have no idea what the hell that was all about.

Hey…maybe it was you?
HaHa..nice…that will stir some buzz and get you more traffic.

Hey man…the CD thing is cool and all, but your profit margin will be smaller now? Even if you do put the stuff on CD it won't stop those type of guys. At least that's what I think.

Regards,
Ryan

Kent @ 3:21 pm

No offense, but blackhatcat is spot on. You haven't delivered on what was promised in SAT. And, truth be told, you act like you can't be bothered with it.

Woody Maxim @ 3:31 pm

Hi Kent,

I apologize that you see it that way.

Did you go through the early blog posts? Market research and a plan is laid out. I agree, it could be better… but what's there is pure gold for anyone that uses it.

As far as acting like I can't be bothered, I have to say that that's an unfair statement, IMO.

I respond to all emails and am clearly addressing any issues. As a matter of fact, I don't know of too many marketers that even respond to email much less entertain posts like this on their blogs.

Chachi Rodriguez @ 3:39 pm

Sadly, I have to agree with Kent and blackhatcat.

And Ryan, come on now…comments like "Bloody warrior pussies! THEY are the scammers!!!" don't do the readers any good at all.

Any forum as large as Warriors will have some scammers but to pidgeonhole them all isn't very mature. I've learned some fantastic things over there and met some wonderful people. And, early on, I was scammed a little here and there. No big deal though!

Responsible criticism can be a very good thing to the person being criticized and smart people who are criticized will often put their ear to the ground and listen.

I have a feeling that Woodster's ear is to the ground today. It's a good thing…

Woody Maxim @ 3:42 pm

Thank you for your feedback.

My ears are always to the ground :-)

Hi Woody,

Weird. I came across that exact thread yesterday when I was searching for posts about the Reverse Funnel system. And I thought it sucked.

Like you said, people are entitled to their opinions but that doesn't change the fact that you deliver real world value regularly. They really should be grateful that you even bother to share some of your geek super power stuff.

I appreciate what you do and hope you keep on doing it.

Tony

PS. I have pissed off regret for missing the initial 24 hour special for the newsletter.

The warrior thread says that you are Keith Baxter :-) Very funny..

Doesn't surpise me in the least Woody. The warrior forums are full of old hacks and guys that talk a good game but arn't really in the biz. There is a fair amount of under the table stuff going on over there…just have a real close lock at WHO has access to the FULL membership list…its more than you think!

ChrissyBoi @ 2:35 pm

Hey Woody

I read that stuff about the Vault and also the thread started by a Mod on Warrior Forum about 'pirate' sites.

Made me laugh my head off, know why, becoz for starters, the muppet on warrior forum (who is also a mod) is one of the BIGGEST PIRATES on that forum.

The fact of the matter is, pirating stuff goes on all the time, and the biggest laugh is WE ALL DO IT. So why cry when someone actually shres yours?
heck I've had stuff of my own pirated umpteen times, do I give a sh!t? No, it's a fact of life, it happens. I do it, and people do it to me.

I become a raving hypocritical lunatic like that douche-bag on WF who kept delting posts that reminded him what a pirate he is when I start complaining about people doing the same as I have done.

Tell me you have NEVER download a movie, TV show, song, photoshop or any of the other gazillions of graphic stuff pirated on trackers all the time?

BTW, I got a copy of your pirated stuff (oops), not bad stuff m8, not quite on the same par as Halbert, Bencivenga or Clayton Makepeace, but you do give value for 'money' - well I would say that, mine was free!! Actually, I have loads of copyrighting stuff, and your's does give value for money even to honest people (aherm .. like myself).

Seriously tho, this stuff is available on forums all over the web, I get some from iranjava, but there are tons more like that - there's tons of them, blaming one website is really lame (not that you were doing that - the douchebag at WF was).
That Vault place is murder to get into anyway, it's not a public site and has very low and exclusive membership - and a lot of their members are people who actually buy the products from what I hear.

If you want a REALLY bad site full of dipsticks, just sign up to warrior forums. The utter JUNK that these morons get away with defrauding the public out of their hard earned cash for beggars belief. If THEY are criticising you m8, you KNOW you are doing something right!!

BobVila @ 12:05 pm

I found a site yesterday through google with every app known to man.. and about 60 new ones a day.

I think I know who you're talking about on the WF and hes a total hypocrite. That place is ajoke.

The Warrior Forum is the anus of Internet Marketing.

To Woody & Everyone Distressed By Pirates,

First of all, Woody, delivering your course on CDs is not going to stop the problem. Even if pirates don't get the course ripped from those CDs this week, some day your course will show up on eBay and some pirate is going to buy it and upload it to some site. Many people in our profession do CDs and DVDs only and pirates are determined to get the content anyway.

The smartest way to handle this leak of your courses, programs, books, etc. to pirate sites is to build your business around it. Innovate. Reinvent your business.

If you're clever, you'll build hooks directly into your information products for up-sells, cross-sells, etc. and then **upload your own stuff to the pirate sites**.

Before you suggest it, let me say it, I don't suggest watering down your products for the pirates. Give them the full thing, they're going to get it anyway. Don't give them a modified copy, either — they're going to know.

Just speed up the inevitable. However, maintain your marketing and sales efforts to the non-pirates normally. In all copies of your product, though, build in some bumps.

Build in services. Build in additional products (best if they aren't information based). Build in commission on physical products (as an affiliate, partner, anything). Build in hooks for related things.

If you sit on the sidelines hoping, praying it won't happen to you. Or if you try to fight it and hold out as long as possible. Well, you'll be Virgin Megastores (50% closed down in the United States in the past 3 years citing slowing music sales). You'd be the music industry (complaining non-stop that they're losing ground, while they should be building more venues to quadruple music tours, increasing poster sales, buying radio stations to better push key profitable bands, focusing on creating more "music experiences", and just overall creating more and more demand for themselves in new ways).

Hopefully you can grasp the idea. We all learned this whilst watching "Tom & Jerry" on Saturday mornings. (You remember those cartoons, right?) Or maybe it was some other cartoon. "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

And, in the case of piracy, I don't think we can beat them. We should try. We should encourage the authorities to try. But there are more people, with more time, with more determination than most of us have fighting against us. They don't even need more money — they just need the will to win more than us. They probably have it.

Will
