Introduction:
If you've been around the internet marketing community for any length of time then you've likely received an e-mail with a subject line like "It's On Fire!', 'It's Selling Like Crazy!', 'It's Almost Sold Out!' and of course, 'It's Flying Off The Shelves". It's usually a follow-up e-mail for a limited quantity product sale.
Businesses send out these types of e-mails as a warning that they're selling a lot of products in a short period of time because they will soon sell out. They realize it creates excitement and urgency so they can counter people's buying procrastinations and hesitations.
It's very effective because most people don't like to feel like they've missed out on a good opportunity to improve thier lives. Many people will assume your product is the real deal because it's selling so quickly and they will want to jump on the bandwagon too.
The bad thing is that this strategy is becoming less and less effective because so many businesses are using it. For it to be really effective you need to present your 'it's on fire' follow-up e-mail with a strong, original, believable reason and/or proof of why your product is about to sell out.
15 'It's Flying Off The Shelves' Strategies:
1) Show people screen shots of your current sales stats to prove that your product is selling out fast. It could be sales to visitors stats, how many products you are selling every second, minute or hour, how many products are left, etc. Tell people exactly when your product will sell out based on the current time to sale stats. It will make them drop whatever they are doing so they can go purchase your product.
2) Tell people that your outsourcing service(s) have been calling you to ask what the heck is going on. Your web host may have asked if you were spamming because of all the unbelievable traffic that you've been getting. Or your order taking service may be investigating how on earth you are getting all those sales in a short period of time.
3) Explain to people how you underestimated the last limited quantity sale you ran and your current sale is on pace to sell out even faster. Also, give them some detailed information about how your last sale sold out sooner than you expected. For example: it was scheduled to run for 7 days but sold out in 3 days or it sold out in less than 1/4 the time expected.
4) Tell people just how busy you have been since you started the sale and apologize for not updating them sooner on the low number of products you have left. Mention that you can hardly keep up because you've been swamped with positive feedback phone calls, e-mails, im's, etc. People will assume if you are this busy, it will sell out soon.
5) Tell people about all the web site server problems you've had from all your traffic and sales. It could be that you had to pay for an upgrade on your sever during this sale because it was running way to slow and show them the actual receipt. Also, it could be that your server actually crashed from the influx of traffic. Plus, apologize for the particular problem and remind them that everything is working good now and they should be able to order without any trouble.
6) Give people a warning that your product is selling like crazy and it's about to start selling even faster because of all the current customers that are joining your affiliate program. You could also mention that some of your top super affiliates or JV partners are getting ready to send out an ad for it too. People will be persuaded to buy right away before it sells out because they'll begin to understand just how many people will eventually see your sales letter and buy your product.
7) Tell people how many products are left and there's a chance that your product may sell out even before they read your sales letter. You could also mention it will likely be gone if they try to come back later. People will see just how close your sale is to ending and order right away. You can tell them you initially predicted your product sale would sell out on a certain date but now you think it will be a lot sooner and you are going to crush your sales goal.
Show people proof of just how fast your product sold out the last time you had a big sale for it. You could present screen shots of actual visitor to sales ratios, the time frame of the start of the sale to the finish, negative comments of people that missed your sale, testimonials from satisfied customers, low refund to sale stats, etc.
9) Tell people you didn't realize the demand of your product would be so great and that you had to actually employ extra people just to help you with this current sale. You could even mention that you had to hire a whole team of people like customer service representatives, order entry workers, product handles and packers, etc.
10) Give people a future prediction of when your product will sell out and the end effect or likely reaction of people that miss out on the sale. For example, tomorrow tons of lucky people will be talking about just how good this product really is and how they are benefiting from it already and the other people that past it up will be kicking themselves.
11) Show people how much buzz and positive feedback you are getting in the industry forums and message boards about your product sale. You could show them screen shots or just give them a direct link(s) to the community messages. If there are tons of posts, threads and comments people will realize just how hungry people are for your product and how many people have already snatched it up.
12) Explain to people that your accountant and bookkeeper is steaming mad because of all the extra work they have to do in a short period of time or they think that you are selling your product for way too low. Most people will think if your accountant and/or bookkeeper is that angry about your offer it must be on fire and you might change your mind and increase the price.
13) Show people that your product is already on some kind of bestseller list within your industry. It would be even better if you can show people it beat out another popular best selling product. You could also mention that the media has already been calling you to cover your product story and to do interviews with you.
14) Tell people how your personal life has been affected by this fast paced sale. It could be that your significant other wonders how you are making so much money so quickly and asked you if it was illegal. Or maybe they noticed that you haven't slept in a long period of time.
15) Show people the comments that you have been getting from your super affiliates and joint venture partners. For example, "Wow! I can't believe how many sales I've made in such a short period of time!", "Thanks! I've already made enough commissions to go on my dream vacation!", Holy Cow! I've only sent 100 visitors and made 96 sales!, etc.

Conclusion:
I want to stress that you should only use these strategies if they are absolutely true. If you can't ethically use any of these strategies, I'm sure you can come up with some of your own honest reasons or real proof of just how fast your product is selling.
To conclude, you should also point out what will happen if people miss your sale. For example you could say things like: it will be gone forever, you'll have to wait till next year, the price will be raised, the fast start bonuses will be gone, etc. Sometimes people assume you will give in and sell them the product anyway, even if the sale ends. Tell them sorry, no exceptions, once it's over, it's over!
